Seattle— DBM Contactors Inc. recently completed the excavation shoring for Olive 8, a 36-story condominium-hotel project in downtown Seattle at the corner of 8th Avenue and Olive Way. The project owner is R.C. Hedreen and the general contractor is Skanska USA.
The complex excavation shoring project was done on a site measuring 241 feet by 110 feet in a congested downtown location. It consisted of installing 100 soldier piles averaging 80 feet deep, 20 of which are underpinning the existing foundation wall of the Paramount Hotel.
For the west alley wall, 660 soil nail anchors and 8,900 square feet of 6-inch reinforced shotcrete shoring were installed until reaching the bottom of the neighboring Qwest building foundation. Tieback anchors and timber lagging complete the shoring from the base of the shotcrete to the bottom of excavation. A total of 560 tieback anchors and 38,000 square feet of timber lagging were installed to complete the shoring system.
