L.L. Pelling Named a Community Involvement Awards Finalist

Move It, Dig It, Do It

L.L. Pelling Company, Inc. of North Liberty, Iowa, was recently recognized as a finalist in the National Asphalt Paving Association's (NAPA) prestigious 2006 Community Involvement Awards sponsored by Reed Construction Data's Associated Construction Publications.

The charitable endeavors of L.L. Pelling Company and its employees include assistance for children and youths, college scholarships, and programs that fight diseases and help children and adults live life to its fullest.

"We're very proud of the workmanship of our 200 employees, but we are even prouder of what they give back to the communities we serve," said Chuck Finnegan, president of the company founded nearly 60 years ago. "As individuals and as a company, I think we all feel very fortunate to be where we are and to be able to help others."

L.L. Pelling Company has supported Special Olympics for more than 10 years and in 2006 staffed the mid-winter tournament and served as a Gold Medal Sponsor for a golf tournament that raised in excess of $25,000 for the charity that Finnegan also serves as a board member.

Company employees also participated in a successful fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Reserve Fund and were part of a new program to benefit the Iowa Children's Museum. Providing equipment and personnel for the museum's inaugural "Move It, Dig It, Do It" program, the company's equipment operators displayed a dump truck, asphalt paver and compactor. The operators enjoyed showing off their equipment and sharing information with the children about the jobs they do each day in the asphalt construction careers they love.

L.L. Pelling Company's other community involvement efforts include assistance to The Children's Miracle Network, United Way, The American Cancer Society, Mt. Mercy College, Kirkwood Community College, and numerous youth sports teams.

Founded in 1948 as a road oiling company, L.L. Pelling Company, Inc. has been an asphalt contractor since the 1960s and works mostly in and around Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
