Story Achieves Safety Milestone
Staff -- Midwest Contractor, 6/11/2007
Story Construction Co., of Ames, Iowa, recently achieved distinction by surpassing 1.5 million hours worked without a lost-time accident. Their achievement represents a significant milestone for a construction company as most of its work takes place around hazardous conditions. Story employees worked 51 consecutive months without recording any injuries to reach this objective, exceeding their previous record of 1 million hours that was celebrated in November 2005.
"The numbers are not the real story, the fact that our employees worked over 1,500 days without missing any time because of an injury speaks to their genuine dedication to safety," said Pat Geary, Story's chief operating officer.
Story is a provider of construction, pre-construction consulting, general contracting, construction management, and design-build services to a broad range of industries including health care, senior living, manufacturing, food processing, treatment plants, education, and churches. The company maintains its headquarters in Ames with a regional office in Davenport, Iowa, and has approximately 170 employees.
Established in 1934, Story is a Merit Shop general contractor, construction manager and design-build company. The corporation is employee-owned with 28 key employees serving as its owners.
