IPE Screw is Perfect for Exotic Hardwood Decking
Staff -- Associated Construction Publications, 1/1/2008
Designed for exotic Ipe hardwood decking, the unique design of the screw point on the PAM collated Ipe screw eliminates pre-drilling, drives easily, and results in an attractive cosmetic installation. The number 10 gauge by 2.5 inch screw is made of 304 stainless steel for added durability.
Also known as ironwood, Ipe hardwood comes from Central and South American and is used primarily in outdoor decking. Prized for its stability, durability, strength and natural resistance to insects, decay and water, the extreme density of this hardwood usually requires pre-drilling but with these screws, pre-drilling is no longer necessary.
To avoid bending and kneeling during screw installation, use of the PAM P13KDE long auto-feed screw gun is recommended to prevent injury to knees and back during screw application. The auto-feed screw gun increases productivity over hand driven screw and the fast change option allows for quick change over to different screw sizes. Weighing six pounds, the gun is ideal for screw installation on drywall, wood, steel, decking, subflooring, roof tile and siding, in addition to its use in installation of IPE screws.
