Komatsu's Mining Truck Provides Power and Reliability
Staff -- Material Producer Quarterly, 3/15/2008
For increased productivity and performance in mining applications, Komatsu America Corp.'s (KAC) HD1500-7 mining truck includes significant enhancements in its drive train, cab and frame. Powered by a turbocharged Komatsu SDA12V160 engine, the HD1500-7 has a nominal payload of 158 tons and delivers 1487 horsepower at 1,900 rpm. The optional SDA16V159 engine offers North American customers an EPA, Tier 2-certified engine, making the HD1500-7 the first truck in its class to offer a Tier-2 certified power plant. Considering the incorporation of VHMS with integrated Payload Meter as standard equipment, the HD1500-7 offers owners and operators a system for monitoring both the application and performance of this haul truck.
Power PlantThe Komatsu SDA12V160, 12-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engines' CENTRYTM electric engine management system continuously monitors engine conditions and automatically adjusts for peak operation. A pre-lube system eliminates wear from both cold and hot starts for longer engine life. Optional CENSETM engine diagnostic system is integrated with VHMS and provides real-time data for maintenance and operations personnel.
Drive SystemAs compared to the previous model, the HD1500-7 will feature an enhanced engine damper assembly, driving the reliable Komatsu seven-speed, electronically-controlled transmission.
PerformanceCompared to its mechanical drive competition, the HD1500-7 has over four percent more horsepower, providing a 10 percent speed advantage on an effective twelve percent grade at maximum GVW. Downhill, the difference is even greater, with the HD1500-7 providing an 18 percent speed-on-grade advantage while traversing a negative ten percent effective grade, fully loaded.
Parts interchangeability drives successThe HD1500-7 has been designed to standardize many components with existing 530M/HD1500-5 mining trucks.
Optional EquipmentThe HD1500-7 will be available with many of the same options that have proven to be valuable to existing Komatsu rear dump truck owners. These include:
- Komatsu SDA16V159 engine for EPA Tier-2 certified applications
- Arctic protection package
- Hot starts (engine oil, coolant, hydraulic tank)
- Deck-mounted mufflers
- Disabled truck quick disconnects
- Pressure fueling — remote LH
