Bulk Pulverizer Offers Powerful Crushing Forces/Short Cycle Times

Staff -- Associated Construction Publications, 5/1/2008

Atlas Copco Construction Tools LLC's BP 2900 bulk pulverizer attachment combines powerful crushing forces with short cycle times. The pulverizer is ideal for light-to-medium building demolition, secondary concrete reduction and material separation.

Atlas Copco BP 2900 bulk pulverizerThe BP 2900 provides 399 tons of maximum cutting force and 125 tons of crushing force at the jaw tip. With a service weight of 6,460 pounds, the attachment operates at a maximum pressure of 5,075 psi, accepts maximum hydraulic flow of 92 gallons-per-minute, and is suitable for carriers in the 25 to 35 metric weight class.

Featuring an angular design with a 37.4-inch jaw opening and an 18.9-inch working width, the unit can easily pick up and handle large heaps of concrete debris. Unlike many bulk pulverizers that immediately deliver maximum power and quickly fade during a cutting cycle, the BP 2900 only produces its highest forces once the material is sitting firmly against the jaws, allowing the unit's crushing teeth to dig into the material being broken. Furthermore, the bulk pulverizer continues to apply high cutting force throughout the entire cycle.

The BP 2900 is constructed of rugged components created through Finite Element Method (FEM) design, which adds durability by applying additional support components only where necessary. FEM ensures the attachment has the required strength to withstand the extreme loads of various demolition applications while keeping the unit lightweight.

An advanced speed valve on the BP 2900 allows shorter cycle times for increased production on the job site. The unit hydraulically rotates 360 degrees, allowing for more efficient operation and excellent handling, and a built-in rotation protection system reduces wear and tear on the carrier. Additionally, the bulk pulverizer's hydraulic cylinders are guarded for full protection from outside debris.

Replaceable teeth and tooth plates on the jaws are advantageous for performing maintenance in the field, and the unit's replaceable blades effectively cut rebar as the tool penetrates through concrete. The blades are also reversible to provide longer service life.
