Alan Wilson , AIA, design principal at The Haskell Company (Jacksonville, Fla.) was elected president of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) board of directors. Wilson has been a member of the Tilt-Up construction industry more than 20 years, is a registered architect, and is a past-president of the AIA chapter in Jacksonville, Fla. Wilson currently serves on the chapter's board of directors.
Other officers re-elected to the board for 2008 are president-elect Jim MacKinnon of Saunders Construction, Inc., Englewood, Colo.; past-president David Tomasula , P.E., of CON/STEEL Tilt-Up Systems, Dayton, Ohio; Laurence Smith of J.W. Lindsay Enterprises, Ltd., Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada; Shawn Hickey of SiteCast Construction Corp., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and Glen Stephens of SAA Architecture, Laurel, Md., and Charlotte, N.C.
Dressta North America has promoted Bob Olson to vice president, sales and marketing. In his new role, Olson is responsible for all machine sales, marketing and service support for Dressta products in the U.S. and Canada. Olson joined Dressta North America in 2006 as manager, distribution planning and development, and has been instrumental in achieving the company's distribution growth objectives.
The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) appointed Neal S. Anderson , PE, SE, as the new vice president of engineering. Anderson will be responsible for all CRSI technical development efforts, as well as all external engineering-related communications.
Anderson comes to CRSI with more than 21 years of engineering experience at the Chicago-area consulting firm Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE). He has been involved in a variety of bridge, building and stadium projects; structural forensic investigations; engineering research; and has published numerous technical papers, many focusing on anchorage to concrete. Anderson is an active member of several American Concrete Institute (ACI) and Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) committees, including ACI 318E, Shear and Torsion, and the PCI Industry Handbook Committee. He has also served as a principal instructor for the ACI Appendix D seminars and for the National Highway Institute's (NHI) course on bridge construction inspection.
Doosan Infracore Portable Power has named Shawn R. Sweet to vice president for global marketing. Previous to this appointment, Sweet was vice president of sales for North America for Ingersoll Rand Utility Equipment, which was acquired by Doosan Infracore in late 2007 and became Doosan Infracore Portable Power.
GenFlex Roofing Systems , LLC has announced that Jim Burkett has returned to the company as its dedicated product development manager, charged with improving and expanding the GenFlex product line. Burkett, who spent the past year successfully completing special projects for Bridgestone Firestone, was previously employed with GenFlex as manager of product development when the company was headquartered in Maumee, Ohio. He also worked as GenFlex's national product and marketing manager.
Kaiser Electric Inc. promoted Michael Compton to the position of executive vice president — pre-construction. He previously held the position of director-design/build.
In his new position, Compton is responsible for coordinating the estimating, engineering and design/build activities during the pre-construction phase of a project. He will focus primarily on projects where Kaiser Electric is a member of a project construction team.
DITEQ Diamond Tools & Equipment announces the appointment of Mike Orzechowski to the position of engineering manager. Over his 20-year engineering career, Orzechowski held the position of engineering manager for Equipment Development Company (EDCO), and was a principal in an automation equipment design and manufacturing business. He holds two bachelor degrees, one in physics and the other mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics. Since 2004, Orzechowski has served as chairman of the Standards and Specifications Committee for CSDA, and has presented a number of educational workshops and published numerous articles in industry trade publications. He also serves on CSDA's Safety and Manufacturers committees and is an active participant at quarterly meetings.
The Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) — a non-profit organization for the advancement of post-tensioned, pre-stressed concrete design and construction — has named Thomas F. Mathews as their director of certification programs and construction technologies. In this role, Mathews is responsible for the management, marketing and promotion of plant and field certification programs and will also serve as a technical resource related to field practices, components and materials. He has specialized expertise in concrete reinforcement installation, post-tensioned concrete construction as well as training methods.
A member of the post-tensioning industry since 1979, Mathews recently served as the vice president of sales and marketing for SURE-LOCK, Inc. Other prior experience includes marketing director — PC Strand for Universal Products Group, Inc./Cables as well as a variety of other positions in the industry including system suppliers such as Dywidag-Systems International and roles as an ironworker, field manager, plant manager, sales manager, and director. With a B.A. from The University of Texas — Arlington, he has been a member of PTI since 1987.
