Construction Writers Assn. Honors ACP’s Greg Sitek, Ivy Chang

Staff -- Associated Construction Publications, 5/14/2008

Greg Sitek and Ivy ChangIn celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Construction Writers Association (CWA) honored 12 members by inducting them into the inaugural class of the CWA Hall of Fame. Among those honored was Greg Sitek, editorial director of Associated Construction Publications. Sitek was president of CWA in the early 1980s and was instrumental in turning it into an independent and thriving association. In addition to numerous other industry awards he has earned during a career that has spanned over 35 years, Sitek has won three of CWA’s highest honors for his work – the Robert F. Boger Award, the T. Randolph Russell Award for Newsletters, and the Silver Hard Hat Award.

Others inducted into the CWA Hall of Fame include the association’s founding fathers: Robert Boger, Duane Cronk, Arthur A. Faber, James T. Jenkins, Jr., E.E. "Gene" Halmos, Henry T. Perez, William H. Quirk, John Rehfeld, Dr. George E. Symons, and Edward Weilepp.

Gordon Wright, recently retired after 32 years with Reed Business Information’s Building Design and Construction magazine, was also inducted into the Hall of Fame along with Sitek.

"CWA was certainly lucky to have these individuals make such large and impressive footprints within the organization," said Bill Wilson, the 50th Anniversary Committee chairman and editorial director of Roads & Bridges magazine. "The Hall of Fame is the best way we can honor them."

Ivy Chang, editor of Construction Bulletin, serving Minnesota and the Dakotas, was selected as a runner-up for the Boger Special Reports Award for her series on the "I-35 West Bridge Online." From August 3 through Dec. 26, 2007, Chang posted a weekly online article about issues concerning the I-35 West Bridge collapse in Minnesota. The judges’ comments regarding the series included:

  • Extremely extensive
  • Well written
  • Took a general news event and followed it day by day with the interest of the construction community at heart
  • Had a tight focus

Both Sitek and Chang received their awards on May 1 during the Construction Writers Association’s 2008 Annual Meeting in Alexandria, Va.
