Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Deirdre Delisi of Austin and William Meadows of Fort Worth to the Texas Transportation Commission for terms expiring Feb.1, 2013. The appointments, announced April 30, are subject to confirmation by the Texas Senate.
Delisi replaces Hope Andrade of Boerne and will serve as chair of the commission. Delisi has more than 12 years of experience in government policy, having served as chief of staff and deputy chief of staff to Gov. Perry and served as special assistant to Perry when he was lieutenant governor. She is a former policy advisor to the presidential campaigns of Lamar Alexander and George W. Bush, and served at the Texas Department of Commerce and as legislative aide for Sen. Bill Ratliff. Delisi received a bachelor's degree from Duke University and master's degree in international policy studies from Stanford University.
Meadows is chairman of Hub International Rigg, vice chairman of the North Texas Tollway Authority and a trustee of the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation. He also is a former member of the Texas Water Development Board, served as a city council member and mayor pro-tempore for Fort Worth, was past vice chairman of the Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Advisory Board, and was a past board member of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and Southwestern University. Meadows received a bachelor's degree from Southwestern University and attended the Harlaxton Institute in Grantham, England. He replaces the late Ric Williamson of Weatherford.
Texas Association of Business president Bill Hammond called Delisi and Meadows "the right people" to shape "a strong transportation infrastructure" for Texas. "The Texas economy is growing at a faster rate than anywhere in the nation," Hammond said.
