PSC Seeks Comment On Cassville Power Plant Until June 30
Staff -- Western Builder, 6/23/2008
The Public Service Commission (PSC), the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are seeking public comment until June 30 on their draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a proposed coal-fired power plant in Wisconsin.
Alliant Energy has filed an application with the PSC for authority to construct a 300-megawatt, coal-fired, electric generation facility at the existing Nelson Dewey Generating Station in Cassville, Grant County. Alliant Energy has also identified the Columbia Energy Center, near Portage in Columbia County, as a possible alternate site.
The draft EIS is a thorough study of the proposed project, outlining potential environmental, community and public health impacts. The public is encouraged to use the final EIS to help prepare for the public hearings scheduled for later this year.
The report may be accessed at http://psc.wi.gov. To view the documents, click on the Electronic Regulatory Filing System (ERF) and enter docket number 6680-CE-170.
Printed copies of the draft EIS are available by calling 608-266-5481.
Comments can be sent by mail to the PSC at P.O. Box 7854, Madison, WI 53707-7854 or submitted via the PSC website at http://psc.wi.gov (click on the comments tab).
Comments should include Docket No. 6680-CE-170.
