Construction Career Days Is Successful

Staff -- Michigan Contractor and Builder, 6/30/2008

Michigan Construction Career Days, held at the Ingham County Fairgrounds in April, was extremely successful with approximately 2,000 middle and high school students from 46 schools across Michigan attending the event and learning about construction careers through hands-on activities, information booths and heavy equipment operation.

The lead group that organized the 2008 Michigan Construction Career Days was the Capital Area Construction Council in collaboration with Michigan's Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP). The Capital Area Construction Council is an assembly of commercial, road, residential and trades contractors, educators, suppliers, and construction trade associations representing both union and non-union workers focused on promoting a positive image of the construction industry.

LTAP's mission is to bridge the gap between research and practice by conducting training sessions and demonstrations and by serving as a clearinghouse for information related to state-of-the-art technology in the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges. LTAP is funded by the Federal Highway Administration, with matching funds from state governments, universities, state highway agencies, and other organizations.

National Association of Women in Construction Michigan chapters provided volunteers for the Michigan Construction Career Days event, and many other Michigan construction organizations, agencies and educational institutions participated in the event.
