Casey County Construction

Haydon Bridge Co. building two structures in southern Kentucky

Story by Tom Hale -- Construction Digest, 8/11/2008

Extensive bridge and earthwork operations are taking place in Casey County in southern Kentucky. Near the city of Liberty, crews are busy realigning KY 70 and connecting that route to U.S. 127.

Haydon Bridge Co. Inc., Springfield, KY, is the prime contractor for the project under a $10.8-million contract with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The project features the construction of two bridges — a 220-foot-long structure over Brush Creek and a 1,500-foot-long structure over Green River.

During a late June visit by Construction Digest, all drilled shafts for the 15 piers of the Green River bridge had been completed. Workers had topped off six piers with columns/webwalls and completed three pier caps. Meanwhile, earthwork was approximately 40 to 50 percent complete.

According to Haydon Bridge Co., key project subcontractors include McKinney Drilling, Louisville, KY — drilled shafts; Hi-View, LLC, Corbin, KY — earthwork; Hinkle Contracting Corp., Paris, KY — paving; NWK Construction, Harrodsburg, KY — guardrail and seeding; Central Kentucky Reinforcing Steel Corp., Louisville — rebar; Walter Martin Excavating, Russell Springs, KY — water and sewer; and Central Seal Co., Danville, KY — striping.
