Haskell Lemon Paves Near Purcell

-- Construction News, 10/6/2008

Haskell Lemon Construction Co. has just wrapped up a $4.165-million resurfacing job on I-35 near Purcell, OK. The old pavement of the approximately 3-mile long section of roadway was milled and stockpiled for recycling on other projects.

“We use recycled asphalt everywhere that specs allow it, which is primarily in the base lift,” said Jay Lemon. “We try to maximize use of recycled materials.”

There was a 1,200-foot section of the roadway that had to be excavated and reconstructed in order to lower the roadway under a county bridge to increase the clearance to meet the federal code of 16 feet, according to David Meuser of ODOT (Oklahoma Department of Transportation).

The new surface is a 14.5-inch-thick layer of regular superpave asphalt, supplied by Haskell Lemon's asphalt plant in Norman, OK. The final touch is the installation of a steel cable safety barrier throughout the length of the project.
