Meeting About New Statewide Electrical Licensing And Inspection Coming Dec. 3
By Mike Larson -- Western Builder, 11/17/2008
I’ve just received a notice about upcoming meetings to help explain the major changes that will come to electrician licensing and inspection when the newly enacted standard takes effect.
Although the new rules are not due to kick in for four years, this is a chance to see what’s coming and to prepare your business for it.
The first meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Alliant Energy, 880 N. Wisconsin St., Berlin.
Four other meetings will be offered throughout the state: Dec. 4 in Richland Center, Dec. 8 in Ashland, Dec. 9 in Rhinelander, and Dec. 10 in Rice Lake.
No registration is required, and the meetings are open to the public.
Department of Commerce Secretary Dick Leinenkugel is encouraging members of the electrical industry to attend one of these meetings and learn about Wisconsin’s new statewide licensing system and its requirements for installing electrical wiring and providing for electrical inspection of all buildings.
The new system, which takes effect April 1, 2013, requires the Department of Commerce to establish a state electrical wiring code, generally requires electricians to be licensed and registered, and provides for electrical construction inspection of all buildings.
Drafts of possible regulation codes will be available before the December meetings at the S&B Electrical Program website, http://commerce.wi.gov/SB/SB-ElectricalAndLightingSystemsProgram.html.
