Construction Statistics Still Down

No surprises here, as Construction Industry Research Board’s (CIRB) latest
--Public works construction in July 2008 totaled $1.9 billion, down 10.4% from June, and 16.3% from June 2007. Public building in July fell 30% below June numbers and was 32% lower than July 2007. Heavy construction was 9.6% higher than the previous month, but nearly identical to volume in June 2007.
--Private, nonresidential building permits totaled $1.75 billion in July, 8.5% lower than June 2008, yet 4.2% higher lower than July 2007. Year-to-date volume is 2.3% lower than the first seven months of 2007.
