Stop Reading This…
November 3, 2008

That is, if it is between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, and you have not yet voted, in California. Please, take the time to vote in this very important and historic election.  And if you are reading this from another U.S. Time Zone, I hope you are voting too.

As you probably have figured out, the choice for President will land the country either to the slight right of center, or to --some believe (including myself) --way to the left of center. How either candidates’ economic plans will look has been reported here on our website ( see: McCain vs. Obama: Where do they stand on the infrastructure and transportation as the election approaches? ).

In California, Prop 1A, the nearly $10 billion High Speed Rail Bond is on the ballot. At first glance, it sounds like a great idea. But then you think about the realities of a.) the huge budget deficit facing California again—Governor Schwarzenegger is calling a special legislative session after the election to try to hammer out a solution, and b.) that most times construction budgets and deadlines are optimistic at first, but cost and time over-runs are usually the norm. Now is not the time to step out in faith on this, in my opinion. Let’s get our own fiscal house in order, first.

At any rate, I hope you vote today…
