Update: Lucas Oil Stadium
June 18, 2008
With just two months remaining before the scheduled completion of Lucas Oil Stadium, there is plenty of work going on in the new downtown Indianapolis facility. During a mid-June tour of the site, crews were testing the $750-million stadium's two high-definition scoreboards and ribbon boards, installing east telescopic seating, installing suite seats, continuing installation of glass and steel railings, completing installation of disabled seating platforms, hanging speakers, and installing cherry lockers in the Indianapolis Colts' locker room.
There is an amazing amount of work taking place throughout the building, which will seat 63,000 people and have 140 luxury suites. Ongoing activities include masonry, ornamental railings, miscellaneous metals, millwork, metal studs and drywall, acoustical ceilings, painting, wall coverings, glass and glazing, doors and hardware, overhead doors and grills, tile, carpet, resinous flooring, toilet partitions and accessories, signage, food service equipment, elevators, escalators, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, electrical fire alarm system, security system, sound system, broadcast cabling, and installation of the data network system. Also, workers have started receiving/installing furniture, installing video replay system/equipment, installing telephone system/equipment, and installing televisions.
Officials for construction manager Hunt Construction Group remain confident that the project will be completed on schedule. To get all the work done, approximately 1,200 workers are on site -- some working overtime.
Looking ahead, crews will start placing the field turf during the first week in July and start final commissioning of the stadium's retractable roof. Outside, crews are continuing work on the planter walls and stairs, and installing bollards, ticket canopies, ornamental fence, signage, light poles, and trees.
