JM Coull Uses eBid eXchange
July 15, 2008
Maynard, MA: J.M. Coull recently announced that it has deployed an online system to facilitate the management of its pre-construction procurement process. The first construction company on the East Coast to roll out eBid eXchange, J.M. Coull adopted the software in February of 2008 and has used it successfully for bid invitation and management of bid documents throughout the pre-construction process. Historically, the pre-construction process was almost entirely manual, involving the reproduction and distribution of plans and specs. Now, J.M. Coull can set up walkthroughs and project meetings, invite sub-contractors to bid on projects through an e-mail interface, and keep track of all aspects of the bidding process for each project. By implementing this online system, J.M. Coull has gained better control over the bid process, enabling it to pass along cost and time savings to its customers. Used predominantly by J.M. Coull’s preconstruction group, eBid eXchange has allowed the firm to establish a complete project process that can be tracked and documented based on customized information. It also allows for a more comprehensive vendor pre-qualification process that lets a project manager appropriately tailor a bid invitation based on pre-specified criteria. The firm is better able to secure competitive pricing due to the ability to collect multiple proposals using the identical criteria, and to meet customers’ strict deadlines with better sub-contractor and vendor coverage. Because all preconstruction documents are available online, the production costs have been drastically reduced, crossing one significant line item out of the customer’s budget. An added benefit of the program is the efficiency it provides subcontractors who are bidding on projects. They receive bid invitations, are able to access and download all project documents, addenda and changes, as well as upload questions to be answered by J.M. Coull. This has sped up the bidding process from their perspective customers and made documents accessible on-demand.
