Case Delivers Equipment To Help Earthquake Relief In China
May 19, 2008
Case Construction Equipment donated a Case 695 four-wheel-drive loader backhoe and hydraulic hammer to help Chinese emergency services teams working to help victims of the horrendous earthquakes that devastated cities in central China on May 12th.
That, itself, was a wonderful thing for the company to do.
But Case even went an extra step farther by also sending two skilled loader/backhoe operators from its regional headquarters in Shanghai, China, to help and also to train members of the Chinese Army-Air Force to help speed recovery efforts.
Howard Dale, managing director of Case Construction Machinery (Shanghai) Company Ltd. expressed the company’s sympathy for the people who are suffering from the earthquakes. “This tragic event has affected many thousands of people,” he said. “All of us at Case hope that our support can bring assistance to some of the people who may still be trapped in rubble, as well as to the survivors.”
Just returning from China, Case CEO and President Jim McCullough added, “The suffering of those impacted cannot be fully grasped. We at Case wanted to help aid the relief efforts and we remain hopeful our equipment donation brings the assistance needed to save more lives.”
That kind of willingness to step up and help when tragedy strikes is one of the qualities that makes great companies true global leaders.
Donating equipment alone would have been a wonderful thing to do, but also dispatching skilled operators to help use it effectively and to train others shows an extra measure of consideration and leadership.
I applaud Case’s efforts, and those of other industry leaders who have stepped up in similar ways during other crises.
What do you think?
