Steve Hudson

Steve Hudson has edited Dixie Contractor for more than 20 years—but he’s known the magazine for much longer than that. In fact, his dad, a civil engineer, introduced him to Dixie when Steve was just eight years old! During college, Steve gained hands-on experience in construction working summers for a local highway contractor. It was strictly a bottom-level position,” he recalls, adding, “I was the one who held the surveying rod in the poison ivy!” Following grad school, Steve worked for several years as an editor for Shell Oil. Subsequently, he taught journalism at Berry College in Rome, Ga., before joining Dixie in the early 80s. Steve and his family live in north Georgia. He enjoys fly fishing and playing bass guitar—“What I really wanted to be was a rock star,” he says—and he is very active in his church, where he teaches an adult School Class and conducts the youth handbell choirs.
