Opus South Files Bankruptcy 05/18/2009
Opus South Corp., an operating division of Opus Corp., Minnetonka, MN, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. bankruptcy court and will exit the southeast U.S. market. The economic decline and its effects on commercial and residential real estate created unsuccessful sales for Opus, which owes between $50 million to $100 million, according to bank-ruptcy documents.

Equipment Exports Up 20% 05/18/2009
U.S. construction equipment exports rose 20% from 2007 to 2008 at more than $20.7 billion, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. South America bought $3.3 billion of equipment, a 44% increase over 2007, and Asia took delivery of $3 billion worth of U.S. construction equipment, a 25% increase.

Southwest Adds More Service Staff - 05/11/2009
Less than a month after Southwest Airlines began service to Chicago Midway at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the airline announced it will begin service to Denver International Airport on May 26, 2009. The Metropolitan Airports Commission said Southwest travelers to Denver can connect to 37 different cities when they arrive at Denver.

South Dakota becomes the first U.S. state to authorize the use of standard contracting documents as Gov. Mike Rounds signed legislation in March to reduce the cost of starting publicly funded construction projects.
