HOUSTON, TX — Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) has named Dennis Petersen, PE, as the recipient of its 2026 Excellence Award. The award is the firm’s highest honor, recognizing individuals whose leadership, technical expertise, and long-term contributions have shaped the organization’s success.

Petersen joined LAN in 1980 as a Project Engineer and spent more than four decades helping guide the firm’s growth and evolution. He was named President and Chief Executive Officer in 1997, leading LAN for more than 20 years.

During his tenure, LAN played key roles in major initiatives across the state, including the Houston Public Works Surface Water Transmission Program, Dallas Area Rapid Transit light rail, Reliant Stadium, the San Antonio Aquifer Storage and Recovery Pipeline, and improvements at Houston Hobby Airport. These projects strengthened critical infrastructure systems and supported regional growth.

“Dennis’s leadership helped define LAN’s trajectory for decades,” said Steve Gilbreath, PE, President of LAN. “He not only guided the firm through significant growth, but also built a culture grounded in integrity, collaboration, and a commitment to delivering meaningful results for our clients and communities. His influence continues to shape who we are today.”

In addition to his technical and operational leadership, Petersen was committed to mentorship and professional development. Many of LAN’s current leaders began their careers under his guidance.
