Griffin Electric Assists VCU Health on In-Progress Community Memorial Replacement Hospital

HOLLISTON, MA Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. (Griffin Electric), a leading area electrical subcontractor, is currently providing installation work on the VCU Health Community Memorial Replacement Hospital in South Hill, Virginia. The 166,000-square-foot hospital is scheduled to be complete in August 2017.Â
The facility will feature 56 medical/surgical rooms, four OB/Gyn rooms, ten intensive care unit (ICU) rooms, three operating rooms, a C-Section room and a cardiac catheterization lab. Â Plans are in place to construct a 67,000-square-foot comprehensive Medical Services Center that will be adjacent to the new hospital. This building will provide for the consolidation of the majority of CMH's physician practices, provide medical office space for future growth, and provide on-call housing for VCU Medical Residents doing rotations, as well as "Phase II" cardiac rehabilitation, administrative and educational facilities.Â
The Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, Griffin team, led by Marc McNair, Region Manager, will be installing fire alarm systems, a new 5,000-amp service, central utility plant, and two emergency back-up generators. Griffin Electric will also be responsible for the lighting and traffic control systems for the hospital's helicopter pad landing area.Â
DPR Construction, Inc. is serving as the general contractor on the project, while SmithGroupJJR and Leach Wallace Associates, Inc. are the architect and electrical engineer, respectively.
