ISC Associate Receives Safety Recognition at BASF
BEAUMONT, LA ISC Constructors, LLC (ISC) Foreman Roger Paulsson was recently recognized and awarded by BASF's Safe Work Awareness Team (SWAT) for behaviors above and beyond typical safe work practices. Roger was observed on multiple occasions exercising his ISC "stop work authority", as well as actively engaging in BASF's Tell Me program. Tell Me is BASF's standard for safety awareness which promotes safety accountability not only for the individual, but for others. It is each individual's responsibility to make aware any associate who is at risk of exposure to hazards or in the act of unsafe work practices.
ISC Site Safety Manager, Ron Campbell, commented on Roger's achievement, "When Roger was informed that he was receiving this award, he did not understand why and could not think of what he did to deserve this honor."
This statement is truly a testament to Roger's attitude about safety. At this stage in his career, safety is second nature to him. After closely observing numerous occasions of positive actions, BASF's SWAT Team awarded Roger with a SWAT coin. The coin is an elite award that was only given once in 2015 by the team.
ISC's safety slogan "Safety First. Quality Second to None." is more than just a concept or theory. It is an integral piece of the company's organizational culture and a principal that requires buy-in from every associate to produce positive results. ISC's safety slogan is the means by which authority is derived for the associates to stop work when they observe hazards and unsafe behavior. Lastly, the slogan is the true foundation for which all successful ventures for ISC originate.
ISC'S safety team at BASF Beaumont reiterates and educates their associates of these truths daily. Through proper training and education, all associates are equipped with the intellectual tools needed to carry out their daily activities in a safe and productive manner. However, safety will always begin with the individual associate's actions.
"Safety First" is the principle that ISC associate Roger Paulsson bases his decisions on in each moment of every day. It is through his example and leadership that this abstract theory becomes reality for all those around him and encourages others to go above and beyond.
