FAIRFAX, VA Dewberry has been selected to provide resilience services to the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI), the office of Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and the New York Department of State to continue the development and analysis of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway in Red Hook and Sunset Park.

Recognizing the risk that the neighborhoods of Red Hook and Sunset Park face due to climate change and severe coastal storms, Dewberry's work will address the feasibility of incorporating flood protection and mitigation planning into the design of the greenway. This will enhance coordination with the $100-million Integrated Flood Protection System in Red Hook and serve as a coastal flood barrier. One long-term goal is to help protect sites between Bush Terminal, Industry City, and Liberty View Industrial Plaza.

Dewberry's multidisciplined professionals will provide resilience services, including site reconnaissance, public outreach, schematic designs, flood risk and stormwater management, feasibility studies, and coordination with the New York City Department of Transportation and the Mayor's Office of Recovery and Resiliency.

The BGI's goal is to make the borough's shoreline communities more resilient. Upon completion, the greenway will span 14 miles and connect the neighborhoods and parks along the Brooklyn waterfront with a landscaped bike and pedestrian route.
