Griffin Electric Installs Premier Power and Lighting System at New Porsche Experience Center

HOLLISTON, MA — Earlier this spring, Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) opened doors to its new headquarters at the Aerotropolis development site adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. A world-class Porsche Experience Center for showcasing the company’s sports cars, and unique 1.6-mile test track, are the highlights of this competition-winning, 450,000-square-foot, seven-story facility.
Designed by HOK Architects of Atlanta, Georgia, the building was cut into the existing grade to provide three underground parking levels and four above ground levels, as well as office space for approximately 400 employees, conference and meeting facilities, a fine-dining restaurant, an employee café, technical training center, classic car gallery and restoration center.
Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. was responsible for the electrical and lighting systems on-site, in addition to tele/data, UPS generators, and lighting controls. Griffin Electric also supplied power to the test track’s computer-controlled handling course, which allows participants to assess their driving skills based on different environmental conditions, such as rough terrain, water-slicked roads, and curves for skid control.
The construction is expecting a LEED Silver designation, due to its high efficiency through on-site energy generation, natural ventilation, fine-tuned building orientation and green roofing. Much of the lighting installed by Griffin Electric, including along the rails of the five main open stairways in the facility, is LED for further energy savings.
The remainder of the project team included Mace, providing program management support services to PCNA; Jacoby Development, Inc., of Atlanta, serving as the project development manager; and Whiting-Turner, also of Atlanta, as the general contractor. Barrett, Woodyard, & Associates of Norcross provided the electrical engineering services for the project.
“It was quite an honor to have worked on this project with an iconic, global brand such as Porsche,” said Wayne J. Griffin, President of Griffin Electric. “It’s clear that the progressive thinking and innovative design behind this multi-purpose facility will ensure its present and future success for years to come.”
