MIAMI, FL — Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc. (CGA) Construction and Engineering Inspection (CEI) Division announces the completion of the first phase of the Port of Miami Tunnel's rigid pavement repairs. Under contract with Broadspectrum Infrastructure, CGA's CEI division is performing the tunnel warranty inspection and CEI Services on the tunnel's rigid pavement repairs along the Eastbound and Westbound directions.

The first phase, which commenced in July 2017, included performing a detailed structural inspection on the Tunnel's rigid pavement, barrier walls, retaining walls, and service building to provide a comprehensive report with the structural status of the listed components. The second phase, encompasses the rigid pavement repairs along the eastbound and westbound directions of the tunnel. The repairs, which are being performed by Bouygues Civil Works Florida, were required after cracks began developing within discrete areas of the roadway; possibly due to water being trapped within the layer of Asphalt Treated Permeable Base (ATPB). The CGA project team managed and inspected the work to ensure compliance with the contract drawings, the FDOT Standard Index, and the FDOT Standards Specifications.

Once completed, drivers will enjoy a smoother ride especially at the approaches to and from the tunnel.
