TAMPA, FL — Thornton Tomasetti continues to grow its presence in Florida with the opening of a new office in Tampa, Florida. This marks the firm’s third location in the state, and will complement established offices in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Tampa office will be led by Vice President David Fusco, PE, LEED AP, a Thornton Tomasetti alumnus who previously served for five years in the Newark, New Jersey, office. With this commitment, Thornton Tomasetti now has 44 offices around the globe.

The Tampa Bay area is a fast-growing market with substantial development plans over the short and long term. The new office at 400 North Ashley Drive in Rivergate Tower will enable Thornton Tomasetti to provide its full platform of engineering and consulting services to a wide range of clients across the metropolitan area.

As leader of the Tampa office, Fusco will focus on growing the firm’s presence across all practice areas. Thornton Tomasetti anticipates strong demand for its forensics, property loss consulting, structural engineering, renewal and façade engineering services.

Fusco has experience in building design and renovation projects and forensic investigations. He has played a leading role on a range of high-profile projects, including commercial, education, healthcare and laboratory facilities, in the U.S. and internationally. He specializes in delivering integrated structural designs that are fully coordinated with architectural and MEP systems as well as forensic investigation and renovation projects. Fusco rejoins Thornton Tomasetti from TLC Engineering for Architecture in Tampa, where he was a principal responsible for creating a structural division within the Gulf Coast market, including Tampa Bay.

Thornton Tomasetti’s connection with Tampa dates back to the late 1970s with One Tampa City Center, the 40-story office building that launched the firm’s proficiency in tall and supertall buildings. Its current projects in the Tampa Bay area include structural engineering services for a downtown office building, and the new St. Petersburg Pier project, for which the firm is providing structural design and construction administration services.

“Thornton Tomasetti has been active in Florida for more than two decades. Opening this new office in Tampa will help us work more directly with a number of current clients that we have previously served from our Ft. Lauderdale and Miami offices,” said Principal Matthew Olender, who leads the firm’s Ft. Lauderdale office. “This new location will also provide us with opportunities to better serve future clients and to develop new business.”
