G2 Consultants Earns New MDOT Assignment
TROY, MI G2 Consulting Group has been selected by RS Engineering, LLC to work together on the upcoming major I-94 reconstruction project in Detroit, Michigan. G2 Consulting is a Troy, Michigan, -based geotechnical, environmental and construction engineering services firm. RSE is a Lansing, Michigan, -based engineering firm consulting on roadway, traffic, structural and construction engineering projects. RSE and G2 will be responsible for time critical aspects of design and construction services for the Cadillac Bridge, one of eight bridges being reconstructed in preparation of the 20-year, $3 billion I-94 reconstruction project.
The I-94 project will reconstruct and modernize 6.7 miles of the heavily travelled freeway from the I-96/I-94 interchange to just east of Conner Avenue in Detroit. Originally constructed between 1947 and 1959, this segment of the freeway has never been rebuilt. In addition to reconstruction of the freeway itself, the project will analyze and rebuild 67 bridge structures, six railroad overpasses, reconstruct and modernize interchanges, and eliminate freeway left lane exits and entrances.
"The I-94/Cadillac Bridge is one of several bridges needing to be constructed in advance of the of the overall I-94 corridor project," said Thomas D. Sereseroz, RS Engineering, LLC Principal. "This bridge is currently in poor condition, and if not replaced soon will require significant maintenance prior to the overall reconstruction of the I-94 corridor. One of our team goals for the I-94 Modernization Project will be to maintain regional mobility during the construction for freight users and access to business and homes."
G2 is approved as an "as needed" provider of geotechnical engineering services with MDOT. In just the past few years G2 has worked on a number of MDOT projects including I-96 reconstruction in Wayne County, the I-94/I-69 interchange in St. Clair County, and the I-94/Sargent Road interchange in Jackson County. The company is currently part of the construction team for the I-75/University Drive interchange in Auburn Hills, Michigan (Oakland County).
"All of these highway/bridge projects are complex and each one offers its own unique set of challenges," said Dave Wanlass, G2 Project Manager. "We have the experience and the expertise to recognize the key challenges and address them in an intelligent and efficient way that helps keep projects on time and on budget. We're always grateful for the opportunity to participate on teams with these high caliber professionals."
