Griswold High-Rise Apartments to Be Constructed By Walbridge
DETROIT, MI Detroit, Michigan, -based Roxbury Group selects Walbridge as construction manager for The Griswold, a $24 million apartment complex located on Michigan Avenue next to the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. The 80-unit complex will be built atop an existing 10-story parking and retail structure that Walbridge completed for Roxbury in 2008.
One-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 750 square feet to 1,600 square feet will be built and will feature nine-foot-high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and balconies on some units.
Kraemer Design Group has been selected as the architect. It is the second time in the past two years that Roxbury Group, Walbridge and KDG have teamed on a project; the last time involving renovation of the historic David Whitney Building, a 100-year-old building in Detroit that houses a 136-room Aloft Hotel and 100 new apartments.
Walbridge constructed the 10-story parking and retail structure, located at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Griswold Street that will serve as the base for The Griswold. The 225,000-square-foot precast parking structure has a capacity for 548 vehicles.
"We're happy to get started again with Roxbury and Kraemer Design Group on an important project in downtown Detroit," said Donald Greenwell, Jr., P.E., Executive Vice President of Walbridge. "This new housing stock has been eagerly anticipated, given the growth of new businesses and retailers in the area."
