Morgan Honored as a â€˜Private Sector Executive of the Year' at MOKAN's â€˜Embracing Diversity â€“ Excelling Toward Excellence' Awards Dinner
ST. LOUIS, MO Joyce Morgan, Diversity Coordinator at S. M. Wilson & Co., was honored as a Private Sector Executive of the Year at MOKAN's "Embracing DIVERSITY - Excelling Toward Excellence" 41st Awards Anniversary Dinner in St. Louis, Missouri.
The awards recognize minority business owners and Corporate partners who have demonstrated commitment to enhancing the lives of others with a primary focus on expanding capacity building and workforce opportunities throughout the region. MOKAN is a leader in advancing opportunities of growth for minority and female businesses within the St. Louis area.
"We all have been working on leveling the playing field and making a difference for women and minorities in construction, and we now have more buy-in than ever," Morgan said. "While we are making great strides in the right direction, we still have a long way to go. I am so honored to receive this award, and so lucky to work for S. M. Wilson, such a compassionate company that truly believes in making a difference for women and minorities in construction."
In 2013, Morgan received the Inclusion Champion Award from the St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers (SLCCC). The award recognizes her significant contribution and efforts to promote the greater use of women, minorities and women or minority owned firms on a construction project.
Morgan is personally involved in organizations that help guide disadvantaged youth to build meaningful careers in construction. She has mentored many students from the St. Louis Construction Careers Center and the Workforce Investment Act program at Mers Goodwill. Morgan is a leader of S. M. Wilson's Habitat for Humanity team that recently completed construction of a new home for a deserving family.
