Best County Road Paving Project in the Nation

ANKENY, IA Few can claim to have developed a project recognized as best in the nation, but the engineering team from JEO's Ankeny, Iowa, office was bestowed with this honor at the recent American Concrete Pavement Association's Annual Meeting in Bonita Springs, Florida. JEO, along with Monona County, Iowa, and project contractor, Cedar Valley Corporation, were recognized for outstanding design and overall construction of the seven-mile pavement reconstruction of Highway E-34 between Highways 175 and 141.
Beyond the design and construction elements, the project received this Gold Award for Excellence in Concrete Pavement for the innovative and cost saving "green" design elements of the project. Utilizing funding from the Surface Transportation Program, the project corridor was scanned using a Mobile LiDar Scanner. This process reduced the cost and time that would have been required using traditional survey methods. The existing pavement was removed and crushed for use as base and shouldering material for the reconstruction project. In addition to the widening of shoulders, safety edge technology was also incorporated into the project, which was designed to assist drivers in returning to the road safely.
Members of the JEO team recognized for their efforts as a part of this project are; Justin Vogel, Transportation Project Manager, Cody Forch, Project Engineer, Quinten Jordan, Senior Designer.
