Summit Innovation Campus Phase I
LEE'S SUMMIT, MO The recently completed Summit Innovation Campus is a 33-Acre mixed-use development located in Lee's Summit, Missouri. The 150,000-square-foot Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC) will anchor the development, which is a one-of-a-kind partnership between the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, Metropolitan Community College and the University of Central Missouri.
Students enroll in their junior year of high school and take classes at Summit Tech. Upon graduation from high school, students will have associate degrees from MCC Longview and have the opportunity to complete their final two years of study at UCM. The MIC currently offers three-degree programs: systems engineering technology; engineering technology/design and drafting; and computer science/software development.
The project scope included: Mass Grading, Paving, Road Widening, Sanitary, Storm and Water Line Installation.
Due to existing, geotechnical conditions, the project presented several challenges. One of those included, controlling development costs and maximizing the amount of usable land to ensure the developer could meet the pro-forma and maximize the return on investment.
To counteract this, Emery Sapp & Sons was approached at 20 percent design completion and with their in-house, vertically integrated services, ESS was able to foresee and troubleshoot challenges from a site-civil perspective, guaranteeing the developer's budget and schedule restraints were maintained or improved upon.
Due to the early involvement in the project, ESS was able to add significant value. From conception-to-completion, the alignment of goals between the two firms allowed for transparent dealings, resulting in expedited delivery of the site civil work.
Phase II of the development, Summit Orchards, will begin construction this summer. Summit Orchards is a 47- Acre development of apartments, office and retail located at the northeast corner of Chipman and Ward Roads.
