WESTFIELD, MA Walsh Brothers recently joined Westfield State University, Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM), Cambridge Seven Associates, Inc., and state and local community representatives to celebrate the official groundbreaking for a new science center on the Westfield State University Campus. The new $33 million science center, once complete, will be the first all-academic facility to be built on the campus in more than 40 years.

Walsh Brothers is providing construction management services for the new facility, which was designed by Cambridge Seven Associates, Inc. The 54,000-square-foot building is pursuing LEED Silver certification, and will include state-of-the-art research and instructional laboratories for the science programs. In addition, interactive classrooms, meeting spaces, and simulation laboratories for the health and nursing programs will be constructed within the new Science Center. As part of the project, Walsh Brothers will also be providing 16,000 square feet of renovations to the current laboratories in Wilson Hall, transforming the existing laboratories into faculty offices and general classroom spaces. The project will also create a connection between both the new science building and Wilson Hall, allowing for universal access on four floors of the two adjacent buildings.

Interim President of Westfield State University, Elizabeth Preston said, "Our faculty and students need access to math and science instructional materials that are challenging, engaging, and connected to the world in which we live today."
