CIC Names Hope as New Committee Chairmen, Updates Certification Programs
WASHINGTON, DC During the annual meeting of Crane Institute of America Certification LLC (CIC), more than 40 crane industry professionals met to discuss issues facing the crane industry and to elect new Chairmen for CIC's Governing Committee and Advisory Board.
Jim Headley, CEO of CIC, updated the group on the proposed crane operator certification regulatory language presented at the 2015 ACCSH meeting in Washington D.C.
"ACCSH recommended by motion that OSHA rework the operator evaluation and re-evaluation language and that type and capacity be put back into the rewrite of 1926.1427," said Headley. "This would result in operators having the choice of being certified by type and capacity or by type only. ACCSH also recommended that OSHA clarify whether a trainer be certified or certified and qualified and that OSHA develop some reasonable definition of who the controlling contractor would be on the job site."
Headley also announced appointments to the Governing Committee and Advisory Board. "The individuals who volunteer their time and talent to CIC's organizational committees, provide important subject matter expertise as CIC develops accredited certification exams for crane and rigging professionals," he said.
Following the appointments, the Governing Committee and Advisory Board elected chairmen.
Brian S. Hope, Vice President of Crane U, Birmingham, Alabama, was elected to a three-year term as Governing Committee Chairman. The Governing Committee also includes the following individuals: Anthony Brown, AD Brown Company; Peter Cooke, Columbus McKinnon Corp.; Jared Crabtree, Assessment Systems; Larry Curtis, Public Member, Institute for Safety and Health Professionals; Jeff Dudley, Archer Western; Tim Edwards, Tim Edwards Co. LLC; Dave McElrath, M&P Specialty Insurance; Wade Pierce, Alabama Power; Jeff Roach, American Electric Power; Doug Smith, STI Group Services.
