Chief Colarusso and Governor Hassan dedicate New Dover Police Station

DOVER, NH Lavallee Brensinger Architects, in association with Architects Design Group, announces the recent completion of the Dover Police Headquarters. The new 28,000-square-foot, three-story facility, includes a covered, secured parking area for department vehicles within a new municipal parking garage.
"Our Building Committee certainly selected the best architectural team and I couldn't be any happier with the way the project was managed and completed," said Chief Colarusso. "The facility has exceeded expectations and the city of Dover has a building to be proud of for many, many years to come."
Since 1935, when the original headquarters was built, the city has doubled in size and advances in technology, office environments, and policing have changed immensely. The new 28,000-square-foot police station includes a new entrance, from the lower level of the parking garage, allowing secure primary access for police officers and staff. It also includes a new emergency command center and training space that can also provide for public accessible meeting space, a secure sally port, booking interviewees room, evidence storage, booking and holding rooms as well as a secure vehicle evidence impound.
The new 133,000-square-foot parking garage has five full levels including a dedicated, secure police level. The police level has capacity for 39 vehicles including the department's three specialty SWAT and crime scene vehicles.
"The Dover Police Department, its staff and Building Committee made for a smooth project implementation," said Project Manager Dale Doller, AIA, LEED AP. "They are dedicated to protect and serve their community of Dover with the highest level of professionalism. Because of their focused attention to the project's needs and details, and their willingness to step-up and roll up their sleeves through the design and construction process, their facility has become a "win-win" solution for everyone! The community of Dover has gained a great facility."
Both buildings are connected and sit on the southwest corner of Orchard Street. This design strategy provides both an ideal downtown location for the police while simultaneously expanding existing parking counts for the Orchard Street lot. Materials in the new building have been carefully selected to withstand long term, heavy-duty use. The exterior of the building was thoughtfully designed to complement the New England mill aesthetic of the town of Dover.
The project consulting team included: Harvey Construction Company, construction management; TF Moran, civil engineers; Foley Buhl Roberts and Associates, structural engineers; WPS, mechanical and electrical engineers and Walker Parking Consultants, parking garage design consultants and engineers.
