Utah Food Bank: Mobile School Pantry Program
SALT LAKE CITY, UT One in every five Utah children face the pain and anxiety of hunger. To serve its community, Wheeler Machinery Co. has chosen to support the Utah Food Bank's Mobile School Pantry Program by adopting three local schools in the Salt Lake City, Utah, metro area. This program supplies food to students and their families at schools where at least 50 percent of the students qualify for free or reduced-cost school lunches and who are at risk of going hungry when not at school.
Wheeler has raised $60,000 and collected 700 pounds of food since partnering with the organization in May of 2015.
Three times per month, Wheeler employees volunteer alongside Utah Food Bank staff and school faculty at a middle school and two elementary schools to distribute food to roughly 120 student households. Children are given bags of fresh produce, canned goods, eggs, milk and more to bring home to their families in need. With this mobile school pantry service being offered at no charge, it is imperative that local businesses such as Wheeler step up to provide the necessary financial support.
"Utah Food Bank is incredibly grateful to Wheeler Machinery Co. for supporting us in the three ways we need support: food, time and money," said Ginette Bott, Utah Food Bank Chief Development Officer. "Having such incredible support starting at the top level of the organization means that each employee is fully committed to helping us Fight Hunger Statewide. We look forward to continuing to partner with Wheeler Machinery Co. to help feed hungry children, and their families, through our new Mobile School Pantry program."
