Arizona Transportation Partnering Excellence Award Committee Recognizes Partnership Achievement
PHOENIX, AZ Each year the Arizona Transportation Partnering Excellence Award committee recognizes contractor partnerships that demonstrate a high degree of achievement in the transportation industry with its annual Arizona Transportation Partnering Excellence Awards. This year, Stanley Consultants was a partner in two projects that received partnering awards in the Roadway, over $25 Million category.
The $45 million two-mile long US 60/SR 303L Traffic Interchange project in Surprise, Arizona, widened the bridge over US 60 and added new access ramps and three lanes in each direction. Partners in this construction manager at risk project include Haydon Building Corp., Stanley Consultants, the Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
Rather than expand the bridge by duplicating the existing structural system, the contractor requested it be widened using precast girders. While this change eliminated the need for falsework over US 60 - and saved $1.6 million in construction costs, minimized traffic disruptions and accelerated construction by seven weeks - it also transformed a relatively simple widening into a highly unique engineering feat. The result is one of the most unusual hybrid bridges in Arizona.
The ADOT SR 202L (Red Mountain Freeway) from SR 101L (Pima Freeway) to Broadway Road project is located in Mesa, Arizona. Partners in the project include Pulice-Granite Red Mtn. JV, AZTEC Engineering Group, Stanley Consultants, WSP|Parsons Brinkerhoff, the Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. This 19-mile long $100 million design-build project included adding general purpose, auxiliary and HOV lanes to reduce congestion.
