GRAND PRAIRIE, TX The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in partnership with the North Texas Tollway Authority, Lane AbramsJoint Venture, the North Central Texas Council of Governments, and local cities and counties, celebrated the start of construction on the SH 360 South Project. Officials from each organization, along with state and city representatives, marked the occasion with an official groundbreaking ceremony.

"The extension of 360 south is not just about concrete and not just about the technical design of the project, but it is about the quality of life," said Tarrant County Precinct 2 Commissioner Andy Nguyen. "Ultimately the completion of this project will make life better for every one of us."

The goal of the SH 360 South Project is to improve mobility, enhance safety and connect communities in Ellis, Tarrant and Johnson counties. The 9.7-mile, $330 million design-build roadway project will stretch from Green Oaks Boulevard to U.S. 287. Improvements include a four-lane toll road between the existing SH 360 frontage roads, continuous non-tolled frontage roads, U.S. 287 mainlanes over SH 360 frontage roads, U.S. 287 frontage road access to SH 360 and cross street improvements to allow for safer and easier traffic flow. Construction is anticipated to be complete in late 2017.

Brian Barth, TxDOT Fort Worth District Engineer, welcomed guests to the event and discussed the importance of the SH 360 South Project to the region. Other speakers included William Zedler, Texas House Representative - District 96; Chris Turner, Texas House Representative - District 101; David Cook, Mayor of Mansfield; Ron Jenson, Mayor of Grand Prairie and Southeast Tarrant Transportation Partnership Chairman; Jeff Williams, Mayor of Arlington; Honorable Glen Whitley, Tarrant County Judge; Nguyen, Tarrant County Commissioner; Michael Morris, North Central Texas Council of Governments; Kenneth Barr, North Texas Tollway Authority; Victor Vandergriff, Texas Transportation Commission and  Jason  McLear,  Lane  Abrams Joint Venture.
