The Amarillo Loop Construction is Underway

AMARILLO, TX To address growth in the region and increased commercial traffic, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in conjunction with the Amarillo Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are proposing a conversion of State Loop 335 to a controlled access freeway. The Amarillo Loop will follow the existing SL 335 alignment except for a new proposed location segment along the existing Helium Road between FM 2186 and Interstate Highway 40. The new expanded freeway facility will include four main lanes (two lanes in each direction), access ramps, and four frontage road lanes (two lanes in each direction).
The Amarillo Loop has been divided into four main segments for ease of implementation and reference; segments will also be phased over time. The segments include:
Segment A - From Bell Street to SE 3rd Avenue
Segment B - From Bell Street to SW 9th Avenue
Segment C - From SW 9th Avenue to Echo Street
Segment D - From Echo Street to SE 3rd Avenue
Segments will be constructed at different times. For example, part of Segment A (subsegments A-1 and A-2) is currently under construction. The remaining part of Segment A (subsegments A-3 and A-4) and Segments B, C, and D are in the various stages of planning and design.
The Amarillo Loop will provide an alternate route for trucks to move freight, cargo, and materials around the City of Amarillo. This can provide a benefit to the region by improving mobility, connectivity, and safety.
