LUBBOCK, TX The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to begin work on a project that will improve safety and mobility along US 84 in Lubbock County.

The $29 million project will reconstruct the US 84 / north Frankford Avenue interchange by building new US 84 bridges, entrance and exit ramps, and adding safety lighting, said Will Barnett, TxDOT's Lubbock area engineer.

"We know this project is located on a heavily traveled route and is going to affect a lot of motorists. TxDOT is committed to keep traffic flowing, but US 84 and Frankford Avenue motorists can expect various lane closures, traffic shifts and detours throughout the duration of the project," Barnett said. "Our goal is to make sure we get the work done in the safest and most efficient way possible."

Both east- and westbound US 84 traffic, through the construction zone, will be reduced to 65 mph, Barnett added.

"Work on the project is scheduled to begin Monday, March 28, with Project Contractor Webber, LLC., of The Woodlands, Texas, setting barricades and making preparations to build the eastbound frontage road and drill shafts for the bridges," said Will Barnett.
