JE Dunn Construction Breaks Ground on New Project for Rice University
HOUSTON, TX Desperately needed parking is coming to Rice University. JE Dunn Construction and Rice University recently broke ground on the highly anticipated new Parking Garage and Office Annex project.
Although construction is on the current Lovett parking lot, the new seven"level, 450-plus space parking garage will provide over 350 new parking spaces. To preserve the university's existing aesthetic, the garage will be disguised with leaf images displayed on large plastic scrims. These scrims are made of a lightweight breathable poly mesh in an aluminum framing system and attached to the sides of the structure.
Attached to the garage is a new six"story, 66,710-square-foot office facility that will house up to 295 flexible workspaces depending on final layout. The first floor will feature Ultra Clear Glass, while the upper floors will have vertical terracotta fins designed to control the amount of natural light into the offices, and are reminiscent of the terracotta roofing tiles throughout the rest of campus.
The office and garage will share a common wall, stairwells and elevator bank.
To improve the flow and accommodate the increased traffic, Rice's Entrance 3, will be widened. The project facility will be LEED Certified Silver and is scheduled to be completed summer 2017. The project architect is Kieran Timberlake.
