Waco District Wins Pavement Award
WACO, TX Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) Waco District brought home an award recently from the TxDOT/Cement Council of Texas 2016 Concrete Conference in Austin.
Waco District Engineer Bobby Littlefield, Jr., retired Hillsboro Area Engineer Stan Elliott and current Hillsboro Area Engineer Jason Duncan accepted the Highways Award, which honors the Interstate 35 Expansion Project from FM 1858/Tokio Rd in the City of West to FM 1242 in the City of Abbott.
Pavement installed for the project, completed last year, was judged for quality construction, cost saving construction, sustainability, innovation, "Raising the Bar," and performance. Special note was made of the coordination between TxDOT and the contractor that allowed for revisions to the construction plans that accelerated construction and reduced costs, with virtually no corrective rework required on the mainlane structure. All completed concrete projects in the state of Texas were eligible for nomination.
Started October 17, 2011, the project reached substantial completion (all mainlanes open) on May 6, 2015. The original contract price for the project was $100.94 million, and encompassed the reconstruction of 7 miles of I-35, including mainlanes, frontage roads, drainage structures and bridges. Contractor for the project was Webber, LLC.
