SH 123 Bridge Project Celebrated With Ribbon Cutting in San Marcos
AUSTIN, TX The Texas Department of Transportation joined Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Chairman Will Conley, Hays County Judge Bert Cobb and San Marcos Mayor John Thomaides to celebrate the completion of the SH 123 bridge project. The bridge recently opened to traffic.
The $11.6 million project included construction of a bridge on SH 123 over RM 12, as well as construction of new frontage roads and improved shoulders. There are now two lanes in each direction on the frontage roads and four lanes on the bridge, two in each direction. Under the bridge, U-turn lanes have been added, along with pedestrian sidewalks. Upgrades to a bridge rail at the adjacent Cottonwood Creek Bridge have also been made.
"As those of us who live and drive in San Marcos can attest, this intersection was one of our most hazardous and has seen a number of car wrecks, some of them fatal," Mayor Thomaides said. "This bridge makes the intersection much safer for drivers in our community."
Hunter Industries, Ltd. is the contractor for project.
