AUSTIN, TX The Texas Department of Transportation joins Senator Kirk Watson, Representative Paul Workman, Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Executive Director Ashby Johnson and the motorcycle community as they cut the ribbon on the new I-35 at Slaughter Creek overpass. The event kicked off with a motorcycle parade led by Senator Watson. This is the first project to be completed under the Mobility35 program which began in 2011.

Austin District Engineer Terry McCoy said, "In 2011, our community came together to develop the Mobility35 program to improve mobility along I-35 through Williamson, Travis and Hays counties. We appreciate the hard work of our TxDOT employees and our project contractor, Capital Excavation Company, for building this project safely and efficiently."

The project includes a new, wider bridge, a southbound to northbound U-turn bridge, improved frontage roads and safer lighting. Work on the $9.2 million dollar project began in May of 2016 and was completed on time and on budget.

The Mobility35 Program is comprised of stand-alone projects that provide location-specific benefits as well as comprehensive projects that add express lanes and improve ramps, frontage roads and intersections along 79 miles of I-35. Seven additional projects are currently under construction. To learn more about the I- 35 at Slaughter Creek project or other projects on I-35, visit My35.org.

The contractor for the project was Capital Excavation Company.

CAMPO Executive Director Ashby Johnson said, "It's exciting to see all of our hard work and planning come to fruition. We hear from the community regularly that getting people moving on I-35 is their top priority, and we're working closely with TxDOT to make sure that happens."
