Reconstruction of I-27 and SL 335 Intersection has Begun

AMARILLO, TX The next step in expanding State Loop 335 to a four-lane freeway with frontage roads is the reconstruction of the existing interchange at I-27 and Hollywood Road (SL 335).
The process will begin with construction of two crossovers on I-27 that will stretch from just north of Sundown Lane to just south of Bell Street. Motorists can expect lane closures as work on this portion of the project begins.
Construction of the crossovers is expected to last approximately two months before reconstruction of the I-27 bridges at Hollywood Road can begin. The interstate bridges will be lengthened in the reconstruction process to accommodate extending the frontage roads under the interstate and westward toward Soncy Road. Frontage roads will include two through lanes in each direction with additional lanes at intersection approaches for right turns, left turns, and U-turns. Improvements to the interstate exit and entrance ramps are also included in this project.
"We appreciate the public's continued patience as we work to improve our transportation system, particularly in an area of Amarillo that is experiencing residential and business growth," said Amarillo Area Engineer Randy Hochstein. "These improvements are designed to serve adjacent developments and improve traffic flow and safety."
Allen Butler Construction Inc. is the contractor on this $42.4 million project, which is scheduled for completion in spring of 2021.
