SAINT PAUL, MN  Tom Sohrweide, PE, PTOE, was presented with the Past President's Award for Transportation Professional of the Year at the North-Central Institute of Transportation Engineers (NCITE) Annual Meeting.

Sohrweide receives the award as a result of dedicating his career to engineering safer, less congested streets and highways. Whether increasing pedestrian safety at a busy city intersection, improving game day traffic or developing Intelligent Transportation Systems solutions, you can find evidence of his innovative traffic engineering work throughout Minnesota.

Sohrweide's recognition also arrives as a result of his extensive professional involvement, which includes:

Mentoring the University of Minnesota Capstone Senior Design Class.
Serving on the Intelligent Transportation System Minnesota Marketing and Outreach Committee.
Serving on the Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths Conference Planning Committee.
Membership on the University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies Safety and Traffic Flow Research Council.

The Past President's Award for Transportation Professional of the Year is given by the past presidents of NCITE to a member who has contributed greatly to the profession over his or her career. Sohrweide served as President for NCITE in 2002.

Sohrweide is a company Principal and has been with SEH for more than 25 years. He currently leads the traffic engineering team in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa. Specifically he works with his many clients to develop traffic studies, traffic signal designs, traffic signing and pavement marking design, roadway designs, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) solutions.
