Cooper and Ottumwa SCR Project Win Awards at 2019 AGC-MO Construction Awards Gala

OTTUMWA, IA — Alberici Safety Director Bo Cooper was honored by the Associated General Contractors of Missouri (AGC-MO) with the Safety Professional Impact Award for his efforts championing the AGC’s Suicide Prevention in Construction Campaign. According to AGC-MO, the Safety Professional Impact Award is not an annual award and is only given out when a safety professional does something that significantly changes or influences the profession.
The Ottumwa SCR Project team also was on hand to accept the Keystone Award for Project of the Year in the Industrial Construction Division. The Ottumwa SCR project is an over $100-million effort with joint venture partner Stanley Consultants that involved design, procurement and installation of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system at Alliant Energy’s flagship 725MW plant in Ottumwa, Iowa.
The project had more than 600,000 workhours with zero recordable injuries, zero owner non-conformance reports and zero contractor-initiated change orders. The project also required tie-in to the existing plant during an aggressive six-week outage where more than 200 employees worked multiple shifts to demolish the old ductwork and tie the SCR into the existing plant.
AGC-MO’s recognition of the Ottumwa SCR project is Alberici’s 18th AGC Keystone Project of the Year award since its inception in 1998.
