Denney and Zesch Join Burns & McDonnell

AUSTIN, TX — Kara Denney joins Burns & McDonnell in Austin, Texas, to provide regulatory compliance support for water-focused environmental projects. In her previous position with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Denney directed the development and implementation of the state’s Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) program.

Working directly with the regulated community for more than a decade, Denney has extensive experience in stakeholder outreach, permitting, regulatory development, and compliance management. She specializes in water-related regulatory issues facing the industrial and power sectors, including CCR compliance, cooling water intake structure requirements, and beneficial reuse.

An industry leader from the outset of her career, Denney served as Technical Lead for Texas’ authorizations for the beneficially reuse of industrial wastewater in 2014. Shortly after, she was selected as Project Manager for the state’s implementation of the federal cooling water intake structure rules.

Denney is a certified Floodplain Manager by the Texas Floodplain Management Association. She received both her master’s degree in geographic information science and her bachelor’s degree in geography water resources from Texas State University.

Zach Zesch joins Burns & McDonnell in Dallas to lead construction teams on a wide range of construction/design-build and mission-critical projects around the world. With more than a decade of experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design and construction, Zesch has led MEP coordination for several major-capital projects worldwide.

He brings a tremendous amount of industry experience and insight to our construction/design-build team and will help us continue delivering exceptional design-build solutions to our clients throughout the world.”

Zesch is well-versed in prefabrication construction techniques, focusing on MEP systems modularization for clients in the advanced technology, healthcare, and government sectors. His background also includes building management system and electrical power management system controls design and implementation; commissioning; and building information modeling coordination.

Equipped with an expansive skill set, Zesch will lead construction services within complex design and design-build projects for clients in the mission-critical, aerospace, manufacturing, commercial, and distribution sectors. Prior to joining Burns & McDonnell, Zesch served as a Lead MEP Coordinator for a multi-billion-dollar construction management firm in northeast Texas.

Zesch received his bachelor’s degree in architecture, with an emphasis in construction science, from Texas A&M University.
