BIBB COUNTY, GA — Despite the weather, construction crews working on the I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvements Project are progressing with ongoing project items. Details of the project to date are below.

Phase 2 and 3

Crews continue working on both the substructure and superstructure of the bridge on I-16 westbound over the Ocmulgee River. Work also continues on retaining walls along I-75 northbound and southbound. Workers continued construction of the substructure of the Riverside Bridge over I-75, as well as the substructure of the new Walnut Street Bridge over I-75. Crews are now scheduling concrete paving to occur alongside the new lanes of I-75 southbound between Riverside Drive and Hardeman Avenue. Crews have completed asphalt paving on Riverside Drive and Baxter Avenue, but continue concrete paving along I-75 northbound between Riverside Drive and Hardeman Avenue.

Phase I

Crews continue the construction of the substructure for the new I-16 eastbound bridge over the Ocmulgee River, and continue working on the superstructure, or beams and deck for the bridge along I-16 eastbound near Spring Street. They are still building retaining walls along I-16 eastbound between Spring Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, as well as Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard near the Ocmulgee River. Asphalt teams have started paving the I-16 eastbound off-ramp to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Spring Street under I-16.
